Why Make it Accessible?

It is imperative that the design community provide web content which is accommodating for those with visual impairment.

People with visual impairment can and do use the Internet, often with the use of adaptive technology that compensates for visual disabilities. But for Web sites to be accessible, Web authors have to take certain care in the way they create pages. By making Internet Users aware of the basics of Web accessibility and providing resources for accessible methods to designers – a community will be developed to address the common issues associated with Visual Impairment and Accessibility.

Internet Accessibility and Visual Impairment is a promient issue in the United States because of the three main concerns: the lack of government and or industry regulations and standards of internet content; the number of visual impaired individuals in need of accessibility to these internet resources; and the lack of industry iniative to address to needs of the visual impaired individuals.
