Why is Accessibility an Issue?

Approximately 1 in every 20 people in the United States who are blind or severely visually impaired. A lack of accessibility affects these people when there is an increase of web content in daily life effects everyone.

The Census Bureau, using data from the 2006 American Community Survey (ACS) estimates there are 15.1 percent of the civilian non institutionalized population 5 years and over in the United States, or about 41.3 million people with reported disabilities.

There are 14.8 million with visual disability 15 years and over. Another 7.8 million have a visual disability that causes a difficulty seeing words/letters. 21.2 million reported to they either “have trouble” seeing, even when wearing glasses or contact lenses, or that they are blind or unable to see at all.
